Celtic fans here in the Tavern are continuing on their merry way, as drink upon drink has the faithful dreaming of a record-breaking season. 

The Hoops have dominated Scottish football over the past 6 years, since the demise and sanctions imposed on rivals Rangers.

So far this season, the old trends are again a reality, as the Bhoys continue to assert utter dominance domestically. Having played 12 games, they’ve managed to accumulate a whopping 30 points as they continue to cement their first place berth.

Since former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers joined back in 2016, he and his side have never looked back with the gaffer bringing pure delight to fans faces at Celtic Park. Currently enjoying a record-breaking 63 game unbeaten streak, which has spelled all kinds of attention from all over the world.

But one thing that the club has struggled to provide for fans in recent times is quality campaigns in the Champions League. In a negative position this time out, it looks as if a drop down to the Europa League will be on the card with their current 3rd place position.

As defensive frailties have been the downfall to most Celtic European night performances, it’s certainly been an area of frustration for our resident Hoops.

One possible cure to this disaster may just have been found, with links in The Daily Record claiming that Rodgers has made Reading’s central defender Liam Moore a target at the top of his list.

The former Leicester defender has played 17 games for the club so far this season, as he proves to be their most vital player. But at a Reading side who seem to be floating around mid-table, surely the draw of Champions League football would attract the defender?

After the links have been covered, here’s a look at the possible back four that Rodgers would use at his disposal…

RB: Mikael Lustig

The Swedish right back has been the second most used player for the Hoops so far this season, as he becomes one of the more experienced players needed to lead the team forward.

After his countries triumph in their World Cup qualifiers against giants Italy, he managed to keep out the powerhouse of an attack that the opposition had at their disposal, full of big names such as Chelsea target Andrea Belotti and Napoli ace Lorenzo Insigne.

Indeed, he’s proved he can do it on the big stage.

Offering an incredible defensive vision to close gaps and snuff out trouble before it’s even come about, along with the solidness in his tackling and the ability to use his strength to compete with opposition strikers in the air.

A well rounded defender.

CB: Liam Moore

The Reading defender who is being heavily linked with a move to Scotland, has been pivotal in their recent rise in the Championship.

As a former product of Leicester City, he’s got something special about him and his defensive abilities. He can offer this Celtic defence an added leadership quality as he often takes up the indirect role of an unofficial captain, leading the back line.

Also with an added sense of pace and strength, it makes it very difficult for any player to make their way past the defensive rock.

CB: Dedryck Boyata

The former Manchester City youngster has been a revelation since joining from the Manchester club, having already made 48 appearances for the club, during which he’s managed to produce a finishing touch in 9 of these games.

The Belgian offers a whole range of different attributes that he can bring to the table.

Similar to Moore, his pace and strength are the key elements to his play, with it being just a task in itself for the oppositions strikers to get round him.

LB: Kieran Tierney

The 20-year-old Scottish sensation has been absolutely superb for the club since arriving in the first team back in 2014, at the young age of 17-years-old.

Since then he’s never looked back, as he becomes a Scottish national regular after claiming a wing back spot as his own.

For a player of such a young age, he can offer this Celtic back line a sense of maturity. With pace, creativity, tackling, composure, positioning, stamina and an incredible crossing ability making him one of the most highly sought of young defenders in the world.

Having already acquired and developed such an array of attributes not even a quarter of the way through his career, he has the makings of a worldwide superstar.
