Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged West Brom to re-sign midfielder Okay Yokuslu permanently in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Yokuslu impresses for West Brom

The Baggies may have been relegated to the Championship last season, but some of their players still impressed in the Premier League.

Yokuslu was undoubtedly one of them, arriving in the January transfer window and making 16 league appearances, adding bite and quality in the middle of the park. He received the joint-highest average match rating among Albion's squad from WhoScored for the 2020/21 season.

The 27-year-old only moved to The Hawthorns on loan, but they have been linked with signing him permanently this summer.

The Latest: Robinson wants Baggies to re-sign midfielder

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson was fully behind the idea of Yoksulu returning to West Brom ahead of next season, given his influence in the Midlands since January. The former Spurs goalkeeper said:

"I’d be surprised if he doesn’t interest Premier League teams. I think he was by head and shoulders their best player last season. He’s definitely a Premier League-standard player.

"We talk about Pereira, we talk about Johnstone but he was their best player sitting in that holding midfield role.

"So if West Brom can persuade him to come and join a Championship team then he would be a real coup for them."

The Verdict: Ideal summer signing

Valerien Ismael's side will go into next season as one of the promotion favourites in the Championship, and acquiring Yokuslu's services again should only increase their chances of going straight back up.

Valued at £6.75m by Transfermarkt, the Turkey international has already flourished in the Premier League in a struggling team, so he could really stand out in the second tier, dominating midfield battles for a side with promotion aspirations.

It remains to be seen whether Yokuslu would be happy to drop a level, but snapping him up permanently would be a significant piece of business if Ismael manages to work his magic.
