Chelsea are reportedly preparing their first bid to land major summer transfer target Kai Havertz.
According to transfer expert Nico Schira (via Sportslens), the Blues are willing to table a £62million offer in order to try and lure the German star to London.

Havertz has been linked to several big clubs this summer, including Premier League rivals Manchester United. However, Sky Sports recently tipped Chelsea to be the favourites to seal the deal for the 21-year-old playmaker. As a result of the financial impact of the pandemic, many clubs are having to forfeit their interest in big money targets. With the West London outfit’s recent transfer ban though, they are realistically the only club in the running for Havertz.
Their reported £62m offer is short of Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price of £90m. However, the Germany international recently told the club he wanted to leave, so the Bundesliga outfit may be inclined to take Chelsea’s bid out of fear they will lose interest.
Havertz has had a seriously impressive 2019/20 season, tallying a total of 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). If Chelsea can secure the signing, he will join new arrivals Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge next season.

Frank Lampard’s side are currently third in the Premier League table and are fighting for a place in the Champions League next term. However, a recent shock defeat to Sheffield United could cause damage, with Manchester United and Wolves breathing down their necks.
