The Daily Star has managed to get Chelsea fans up on their feet here in the Football Transfer Tavern after claiming that Jose Mourinho wants to offer one of his over 30’s a massive four-year deal.
The man in question is 31-year-old Branislav Ivanovic who is of course one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers and certainly a Mourinho favourite – and has even managed to get this far in negotiations for the new deal without an agent.
As one of our punters quips, if that is what the absence of an agent gets you, we suggest a few other players follow suit pronto!
Chelsea have made a policy of only handing one year deals to players who are over 30 but Mourinho is desperate to keep the right back at the club and from the clutches of Real Madrid et al – and will try and get his board to offer a long term, £90,000 per week contract to convince the Serbian to pledge his future to the Blues.
