Owen Coyle is weighing up a move for Chelsea reject Franco Di Santo.
The giant Argentinean followed in the footsteps of the great Scott Parker and Shaun Wright Phillips when he made the switch to Stamford Bridge back in 2008 in order to further his promising career. Alas, he now looks certain to follow in their wake once again as Carlo Ancelotti begins to entertain offers this summer to ship out the man deemed very much surplus to requirements.
His career in England has been somewhat miserable since arriving in West London from Chilean club Audax Italiano two years ago and after making a miserly eight appearances for the League Champions, he started to forget what a football looked like and was booted out to Blackburn for a season-long loan stint last term. His recent return to Stamford Bridge was not one of a conquering hero, following a dreadful scoring ratio rivalling that of Emile Heskey of only 1 in 22 games at Ewood Park, and he now looks set for a rapid return to deepest Lancashire.
The Reebok Stadium looks his most likely destination with Owen Coyle looking to shift the goalscoring burden away from the broad shoulders of Kevin Davies, but Dutch Champions FC Twente are also said to be in the hunt for Di Santo’s signature sparking a bidding war which might just run into six figures.
At 6ft 4 and with 25 youth appearances for his native Argentina tucked under his belt, he could prove quite a bargain.
