Chelsea: Fans feel sorry for Olivier Giroud after report about his future

Chelsea fans have been feeling sorry for Olivier Giroud after reports from The Athletic over a prospective move away for the France international.

According to David Ornstein, Chelsea’s chase for a striker is over, therefore, the French striker will remain at the club. He also went on to claim that it would take something ‘extraordinary’ for the current circumstances to change before the 11 pm deadline tonight. Giroud has been wanting a move away from Stamford Bridge this month with reports claiming the west London outfit had agreed on a fee with rivals Tottenham Hotspur (via The Sun).

One fan made his feelings on Giroud clear, describing him as ‘loyal’.

A move away was being touted because the forward was desperate to secure his place in France’s squad for this summer’s European Championships. The 33-year-old has been left frustrated this season, appearing just seven times across all competitions with Frank Lampard preferring Michy Batshuayi as Tammy Abraham’s understudy, as per Transfermarkt.

Fans were left giving the player their condolences after the report by Ornstein as they took to Twitter to react. Here is a selection of tweets from the Stamford Bridge faithful:
