Chelsea have issued a statement in which they give Championship side Derby County permission to select loanee Mason Mount in next week’s Carabao Cup clash at Stamford Bridge and the club’s fans are undecided on whether it is actually a good or a bad thing.
The 19-year-old has been in excellent form since joining the Rams on a season-long loan in the summer. The encounter promises to be quite a special one with former Chelsea player Frank Lampard returning to Stamford Bridge as the manager of Derby, while another loanee Fikayo Tomori has also been given permission to be available for selection.
But it’s going to be Mount which most Chelsea fans will be most eager to see after playing a vital role in Derby’s third round win over Manchester United in the competition. He was then also named in Gareth Southgate’s Nations League squad for the matches against Croatia and Spain but didn’t make the team on either of the occasions.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions by Chelsea fans:
I actually disagree with this. I agree that Both Mount and Tomori will benefit in terms of development. However, it’s about the here and now and Chelsea’s progression in the cup. I’m not saying this is going to mean we’ll get beat, but it certainly gives derby a better chance!

This looks like a very good decision but I hope Mount’s goal doesn’t knock us out
