RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has a €50 million release clause in his contract, but is not willing to leave the Bundesliga club until the summer according to a report from The Athletic.
The report also suggests that the German striker is a transfer target of Chelsea, who are looking to strengthen their squad after having their transfer ban lifted.
Tammy Abraham has done brilliantly well and has netted 12 Premier League goals in 20 appearances (Transfermarkt) but neither Michy Batshuayi or Olivier Giroud have been in favour.
Indeed, between them they have played just 308 minutes in the league this term (Transfermarkt), so Frank Lampard is thought to be looking at alternative options to provide competition for Abraham.
It seems that Werner would be a popular choice amongst the Blues faithful and most fans are even willing the club to buy him in this transfer window and loan him back to Leipzig until the summer if he is definitely not wanting to leave Germany this month.
That would be a similar deal to the one they agreed with Borussia Dortmund for Christian Pulisic last year, when they bought the American but let him stay in the Bundesliga on loan until the summer (BBC Sport).
Here is what some Chelsea fans said on Twitter about potentially signing Werner…
Secure him and loan him back to leipzeig for remainder of season

If he has a release clause then it (surely) can be triggered whenever?? Chelsea should be all over this imo @ChessyHour
