Chelsea: Fabrizio Romano shares Enzo Fernandez update

Chelsea are in ‘direct talks’ to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez and want to offer a ‘huge fee’, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Lowdown: World Cup winner
Fernandez recently helped Argentina to a third World Cup triumph, starring alongside Lionel Messi in Qatar. The 21-year-old featured in every game, scoring once and registering an assist, with his Transfermarkt valuation rising to €55m as a result.
He appears to be a man in demand heading into 2023 after picking up the tournament’s Golden Boy award, and it looks as if Stamford Bridge officials are looking to seal a deal quickly ahead of their competitors.
The Latest: Chelsea interest
Romano took to Twitter on Friday morning to share what he knows about Fernandez’s situation, saying that the midfielder has already said yes to the Blues.
The reliable reporter revealed that Chelsea are in ‘direct talks’ with Benfica and want to offer a ‘huge fee’ instead of paying his €120m release clause.
The Verdict: Not messing around
The Blues have made a major head start on their winter window business, with Romano previously saying that AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile looks set to seal a Chelsea move soon to become the club’s third 2023 addition with David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos.
Fernandez appears to be the next main target after Badiashile and appears to be open to a move, which is hugely promising. Chelsea are certainly going about their business the right way, and hopefully, a move for Fernandez can progress in the coming days.
