Chelsea are 'really confident' of completing a move for RB Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Chelsea keen on Nkunku

Recent reports have suggested that the Blues are interested in bringing in the 25-year-old as Graham Potter looks to build a more potent attacking unit at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku has scored 12 goals in just 14 starts in the Bundesliga so far this season and is part of France's squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

A fresh update further suggests that the Frenchman could end up at Chelsea in the near future.

The Latest: Chelsea 'really confident' of signing Nkunku

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano claimed that the Blues are 'confident' that a deal can soon be struck for Nkunku.

The Italian stated:

"Chelsea are really confident. Chelsea are really confident because the player has already had a medical with the club.

"It was in September; then we had some denials because it’s normal to protect the player and protect the clubs in September. But what I’m told is that the medical was with Chelsea staff and for Chelsea."

The Verdict: Could be a superb addition

Nkunku has the ability to be a magnificent signing by Chelsea, coming in as a younger alternative to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and providing immediate firepower.

His record of 64 goals in 159 appearances for Leipzig speaks for itself - he has also registered 51 assists in that time - and he is at a perfect age to come in and become a marquee figure at Stamford Bridge.

Nkunku has been described as a 'world-class' player by former Leipzig assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer, and his reputation could grow further if he excels for France at the World Cup.
