Bayer Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz has admitted that he thinks Kai Havertz’s time with the club is up.
Chelsea have been in talks with the 21-year-old midfield sensation for months. As other interested parties have gradually dropped off the radar, the Blues are waiting to wrap up the final details regarding his move to west London.
Sky Sports have reported that Havertz wants to facilitate the move as soon as possible as he is eager to officially become a Chelsea player. Echoing a similar statement, Bosz has said that he doesn’t expect to see the Germany international return to the Leverkusen training ground.
Will Kai Havertz start for Chelsea?
“Unfortunately our squad isn’t set yet,” the Dutchman commented. “I don’t expect [Kevin] Volland and Havertz to train with us again.”
Losing the young playmaker will be a huge blow for the Bundesliga side. Havertz tallied an impressive 12 goals and six assists in the league last season and 18 goals, nine assists overall (via Transfermarkt). His remarkable efforts from the middle of the park saw him finish as Leverkusen’s top scorer for the 2019/20 campaign.
He will likely add even more attacking flair to Chelsea’s midfield as they look ahead to an exciting season in the Premier League and Champions League.
“It’s possible more players will transfer. We definitely still have to add some players,” Bosz continued.
Havertz will be a tough player to replace as Leverkusen restart their hunt for a top four finish in 2020/21. Last time round they missed out by an agonising two points, with Borussia Monchengladbach snatching the final Champions League spot – a fate which Chelsea thankfully avoided as they secured fourth in the Premier League on the final day of the season in July.
