West Ham appear to have had a change of heart surrounding the nature of Declan Rice’s potential departure from the club.
The England international has been on Chelsea’s radar for several weeks now and has been highlighted as one of Frank Lampard’s top priorities ahead of the new season. A lot of speculation has surrounded how much Rice will cost but a new report from Football Insider may have put the uncertainty to rest.
Would Declan Rice start for Chelsea?
According to their latest update, Chelsea are preparing to table a mammoth offer worth £70million, which will include cash plus a player. The Blues recently gave West Ham the choice of at least of one of Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Michy Batshuayi (as per Football Insider).
However, the Irons knocked back this suggestion and informed their Premier League rivals that they were looking for a cash only transaction.
Now, it seems as though they’ve once again changed their mind and are willing to take a large sum of money plus a senior Chelsea player for Rice.
The report claims that Lampard’s side have been given encouragement surrounding their move for the 21-year-old. This could indicate that a deal is close to being finalised and the Blues are closer to adding another defensive option to their roster.
Fellow defensive target Thiago Silva has all but joined the club and is reportedly set for a medical on Thursday. Lampard and Jody Morris are said to be big admirers of Rice and they look as though they are doing all they can to make sure the move happens.
The defender-turned-midfielder will join best friend Mason Mount, possibly in the middle of the park, should talks of his Chelsea transfer come to fruition. Rice is part of a grand scheme involving a lot of changes, which could see several senior defenders leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
