According to a report by Goal reporter Kevin Palmer, Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz are reaching the ‘final stages’ – with discussions currently focusing on performance-related bonuses and payments as Frank Lampard hopes to welcome a third summer signing.
The Blues have been busy in the transfer market so far, securing deals for both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech for a combined £80 million, and now a third acquisition could potentially be on the horizon as per this report.
Chelsea have been told to cough up £90 million to secure his signature or forget the deal, as the Evening Standard claim, and journalist Palmer has now revealed that discussions could be coming to a close.

Over 2019/2020, the 6ft 2 attacking star bagged 18 goals from centre-attacking midfield for Leverkusen (Transfermarkt), something that may have potentially enticed sporting director Marina Granovskaia to ramp up Chelsea’s pursuit.
Werner can also play in that role, but Havertz signing may help to push the ex-RB Leipzig ace further forward in his preferred striking position – with Chelsea’s centre-forward roster now including Werner, Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud.
The latter pair appear to be most at threat when it comes to the acquisitions of Werner and potentially Havertz.
Batshuayi started just one Premier League game last season while Giroud was given the nod by Lampard a meagre 12 times – despite notching eight league goals in total (WhoScored).
Indeed, Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz also believes that the ‘special’ Havertz can get even better (Goal) – a notion which could excite Chelsea supporters as the club gear up for a 2020/2021 title challenge.
