Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with amazement on their faces as our landlord reads in Metro that the Blues could have signed Eden Hazard for much, much less than they paid for him.
The former Lille player has gone on to double his value of £32 million that the West London club originally paid for him in 2012.
We think that come the day Hazard starts ‘following’ Real Madrid on Instagram, the Blues can at least comfort themselves with the fact that they will double their initial outlay on the Belgian international – at the very least.
However, had the Blues acted when Hazard was 16 and they were originally alerted to his talents, they could well have landed him for a measly £100,000 in compensation to the Ligue 1 side!
Hazard is shaping up to be one of the finest players in world football on current evidence and is vital to Chelsea and Jose Mourinho.
However, given the Blues are currently sniffing around Lionel Messi, they may well look to cash in on Hazard to partly fund a move, not that our punters would be too keen on seeing that happen with many of our resident Blues fantasising over a potential link up!
