Chelsea must avoid another KDB or Salah disaster by keeping 19-year-old wonderkid this summer

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been forced to watch on this season as Mo Salah and Kevin De Bryune – a pair of former players – have taken the Premier League by storm, and they are hoping their club will avoid selling any more future super stars this summer.

Mo Salah narrowly tipped Kevin De Bruyne to the PFA Player of the Year award recently following an emphatic season of electric performances for Champions League chasing Liverpool. Meanwhile, his former club Chelsea have mounted a tepid defence of their Premier League crown and are struggling to finish inside the top-four as a consequence.

The Blues faithful have been disappointed with the season for these reasons, so they are eager to ensure their club learn from their past mistakes and keep hold of a potential superstar for the future this summer, namely Mason Mount. The 19-year-old midfielder is currently playing his trade at Vitesse where he has managed to score 8 goals and provide 8 assists from 28 appearances in the Eredivisie, winning the player of the year award in the process.

His performances in Holland have attracted interest from Dutch giants Ajax, PSV, Sporting Lisbon, Werder Bremen and a string of English clubs according to reports in The Sun. Although Mount still has plenty to prove in European football, it would be foolish for Chelsea to allow him to leave on a permanent deal this summer.

The examples of De Bruyne and Salah both serve to prove that players need time and trust in order to flourish at the top level, so Mount should be afforded both during his time at Stamford Bridge before they decide to cash in on a potential star for the future. If the Blues are unwilling to introduce him to the first-team next season then he should be allowed to take a loan move away from the club, but a permanent deal should be out of the question completely.

Following his eye-catching performances in Holland, there may be no better time for Chelsea to cash in on their academy product, but history has taught the club that the decision to sell players with raw potential can ultimately come back to haunt you, so they should do everything they can to keep Mount in West London this summer.
