Antonio Conte and the Chelsea fans down in the Transfer Tavern must be scratching their heads in unison.
Just how have the Blues started the season with such a bare squad?
Indeed, Conte appears mostly concerned with his side’s lack of wing-backs. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso were superb last season, but with the Champions League back, Chelsea cannot risk overworking the pair.
The club is seemingly interested in a deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal, but they do have cover at right-wing-back in the form of Cesar Azpilicueta.
The opposite side is less assured, but one player who the Blues have seemingly been chasing all summer is Juventus left-wing-back Alex Sandro.
The Brazilian was tipped for a move to Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer, despite Juventus’ reluctance to sell, but a potential deal soon fell quiet. Now the Blues are seemingly back in for the 26-year-old who is Conte’s first-choice to bolster the left-flank position.
So far Chelsea have had significant bids turned down by the Serie A champions, who remain intent on keeping their man.
The Telegraph, though, has suggested that the Brazilian is keen on a move away from Turin, but has so far refused to submit a formal transfer request.
Thoughts on Sandro, Blues fans? And is full-back the only area you need to strengthen? Let us know in the comments…
