Chelsea predicted XI: Injury crisis adding more pressure on Frank Lampard vs Wolves

Chelsea succumbed to a draw at the hands of Sheffield United after Kurt Zouma’s disastrous own-goal sealed a point for the Blades late on at Stamford Bridge. The result leaves Chelsea on just five points after four games.

As well as the disappointing result before the international break, Frank Lampard also has a major injury crisis to contend with as the pressure continues to mount early on in his Chelsea management career.

Up next for the Blues is the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Midlands club have been flying high in Europe this season, but similar to the Blues, Wolves have struggled to get going domestically.

So, how will Lampard line up his side for the trip to Molineux?

Up top, injuries to Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro should keep Christian Pulisic in the side, whilst academy graduates Mason Mount (2 goals) and Tammy Abraham (4 goals) have scored all of Chelsea’s goals so far.

In defence is where Lampard’s injury crisis is most felt with Emerson sidelined, which should force in Marcos Alonso and ensure Cesar Azpilicueta keeps his place, as well as Antonio Rudiger returning to the bench at least.

Elsewhere, despite Fikayo Tomori’s decent Premier League debut earning him a 6/10 (as told by Football.london), the Chelsea boss should go with more experience at the back in Andreas Christensen.

In midfield, the injury to N’Golo Kante further justifies the importance of Jorginho right now – the Italian averages 2.8 tackles per game this season and should retain his spot. [WhoScored]

Furthermore, Ross Barkley’s 3.7 shots per game, 2 key passes per game and 2.3 dribbles per game [WhoScored] make him a no-brainer right now.

Mateo Kovacic is fit for the trip to Wolves, so he could come into the side.
