Chelsea should consider making a move for these 2 defenders this summer – agreed?

Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are certainly waiting in anticipation following a wonderful season which saw them win the Premier League.

Of course, the FA Cup final defeat is still fresh in the Blues fans’ minds but our landlord still believes that Antonio Conte should be very happy with how his first season at Stamford Bridge has panned out, especially given the shambles of the previous season at the club. The Blues fans in the bar echo this view and there is no doubt that the Italian boss is now a fans favourite.

Our landlord has had further thoughts on Chelsea and what he feels they need to do in order to take their side up a notch. He has concluded that the club cannot afford to be lax in the transfer market, especially after the disaster that happened the season after the last time Chelsea lifted the Premier League.

In order to prevent such events happening, the common suggestion in the Tavern is that Conte should act early in the market and give himself ample time to gel together an improved squad ready to defend their trophy next time around. Defensive options are the current topic of discussion among Blues fans, especially following the departure of club legend, John Terry.

With that said, let’s take a look at the two defenders that our landlord feels Chelsea should make an early move for this summer…

Virgil van Dijk

With Liverpool withdrawing their interest and Manchester City fearing the price tag of the Dutchman, Chelsea could emerge as the sole candidate to take van Dijk away from Southampton.

The Saints man has a lot of ability when the ball is at his feet and he would fit right into Conte’s style of football which would make him a very good addition at Stamford Bridge.

Of course, the price tag of van Dijk is rising and our landlord has suggested that Chelsea try to seal this deal as soon as possible.

Jerome Boateng

The Bayern Munch man would be a fantastic addition at Stamford Bridge.

Boateng, of course, comes with Premier League experience following his stint at Manchester City in 2011 and that will help him adapt quickly as Chelsea look to defend their tite next season.
