Chelsea supporters in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has opted to reject a move to the Premier League Champions.
Reports emerged earlier this week that Oxlade-Chamberlain had rejected a proposed £40M to Chelsea. It is believed that the 24-year-old is eager to play a central role, rather than operating as a wing-back hence his decision to refuse a move to West London.
This has left the Blues in a rather precarious situation with time running out in the transfer window. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain was sighted as a player who would provide Conte with invaluable cover in a number of positions, most notably at wing-back.
Accordingly, the Chelsea hierarchy must be prepared to target another wing-back before the deadline tonight. A club of their stature can’t compete in four major competitions with just two wing-backs. Our landlord has identified Southampton’s Cedric Soares as a player that the Blues should target before the conclusion of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old has testified his ability to thrive in the Premier League, and he’s also attained crucial experience with the Portuguese national team, he was a vital figure in their successful European Championship.
From a defensive perspective, Soares is lauded for his marvellous tackling ability. On the other end of the pitch, the Portuguese full-back is highly regarded for his terrific crossing ability and his tendency to shoot from long distance.
The Blues can ill-afford another rejection this window. Thus they must act promptly to ensure that their businesses is concluded before the deadline.
