Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have expressed their concerns, after a star player of theirs talked up interest from the continent.
Metro quote Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta as stating he is flattered by interest from his homeland, where Athletic Bilbao have been linked with a swoop for the Basque defender.
‘It’s always flattering when a club wants you, and I must say I’ve heard great things about Ernesto Valverde [Bilbao’s manager]. But I’m focused on the national team and on Chelsea, where I have four years of contract left and where I’m made to feel very important.’
Azpilicueta, who’s favoured role is at right-back, has found himself regularly used on the left for Chelsea ever since Ashley Cole left Stamford Bridge- and our landlord believes this could be a big reason for Azpilcueta’s move, if he does vacate west London.
The 26-year-old may also find himself out of Antonio Conte’s plans for a new-look Chelsea side too, with the Italian boss linked with a host of defensive signings across Europe.
Would Azpilicueta be a big loss for Chelsea? Let us know in the comments below!
