Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are left scratching their heads after the Daily Star explained how Andre Schurrle didn’t want to leave Chelsea ahead of his move to Wolfsburg.
He has endured a tough season but this was matched by a great mentality as he spent the whole season playing second fiddle to Eden Hazard and Willian.
For Schurrle, it came as a bit of a shock when he moved back to his German homeland to play in the Bundesliga.
He was supposedly shipped out of Stamford Bridge for £24.6 million to allow Chelsea to meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations as they signed Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado.
Schurrle said: “I wanted to stay but in the last month I leaned towards changing something because I wanted to do what is fun for me – and that is to play football.
“I could only do it briefly at Chelsea in the past weeks. I had a good time with Chelsea. I’m still confident and know what I can do.”
These comments contradict comments made by Blues boss Jose Mourinho whilst the transfer window was open.
In a press conference, in his attempt to play down speculation, he said that he was happy with his squad and that he wouldn’t be pushing anyone out of Stamford Bridge.
