The Transfer Tavern is filled with Chelsea patrons today, celebrating a phenomenal first season under Antonio Conte.
The Italian arrived last summer after stepping down as Azzurri manager and inherited a squad that finished tenth in the top flight last term, producing the worst Premier League title defence of all time.
But it didn’t take Conte long to re-establish the 2015 champions as the English game’s most dominant team once again, instigating a change in formation that has propelled Chelsea to the Premier League’s summit – now sitting ten points clear after beating West Ham on Monday night.
Earlier this week, our Blues punters were overjoyed with reports from Sky Sports, claiming Conte could sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge within a matter of days – potentially even before Chelsea meet Manchester United in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on Monday.
But according to The Telegraph, although Chelsea remain confident of agreeing fresh terms with their gaffer, whose win-rate stands at a staggering 78.8%, they could delay the announcement of a new deal until the Blues mathematically secure the Premier League title.
Conte has previously admitted that his family are missing him in Italy, but they’re now expected to move to England before the start of next season. The 47-year-old’s current contract expires in summer 2019.
