Chelsea have responded to their first defeat of the season up at Newcastle United in style, winning three consecutive matches in the Champions League, Premier League, and League Cup.
Jose Mourinho’s side marched into the semi-final of the Capital One Cup with a 1-3 win over Derby County last night which prompted the Chelsea boss to field questions of a possible quadruple.
But Mourinho said: “We don’t speak about it. You [the media] spoke a few weeks ago about being unbeatable in the Premier League and we never did it.
“Now you speak about the quadruple. We have our feet on the ground.”
But as well as the League Cup semi-final, Chelsea sit top of the Premier League having been drawn against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League and Watford in the third round of the FA Cup.
With Mourinho’s Chelsea squad looking stronger than ever, a few world class additions in January could make anything possible for Chelsea this season.
Here we have gone through the transfer rumours, and identified the five Chelsea stories we see as the most believable.

It is coming to that time when Jose Mourinho needs to start thinking about a long-term replacement for John Terry.
(function(){var ids=["snack_dex5","snack_dex6"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-d:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); (function(){var ids=["snack_mex4","snack_mex5","snack_mex6","snack_mex7"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-m:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); Reports have linked Real Madrid centre back Rapahel Varane with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid reportedly willing to listen to offers of £19 million.
Given that Mourinho has spoken of Varane in glowing terms before, and is the man who gave him his first team break whilst in charge at the Bernabeu, it would not come as a shock if this deal came off.
(function(){var ids=["snack_dex5","snack_dex6"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-d:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); (function(){var ids=["snack_mex4","snack_mex5","snack_mex6","snack_mex7"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-m:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); William Carvalho
(function(){var ids=["snack_dex5","snack_dex6"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-d:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); (function(){var ids=["snack_mex4","snack_mex5","snack_mex6","snack_mex7"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-m:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); The 22-year-old defensive midfielder is regarded as the most promising prospect in Portuguese football.
Mourinho has reportedly been keeping tabs on him for some time, whilst the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked.
But given Mourinho’s reputation in his home country, it would not be a shock if Carvalho opted to play under Mourinho at Chelsea should he choose to leave Sporting Lisbon in the upcoming transfer window.

The Portuguese playmaker is reportedly eager to leave Monaco, having seen Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez leave the club in the summer.
Moutinho has since been offered to the top Premier League clubs by super agent Jorge Mendes.
Given that Mendes also represents Mourinho, it would not come as a surprise if his fellow countryman were to make the switch to Stamford Bridge this winter, with the pair also sharing the Porto connection.

Another player Mourinho was a big fan of during his time at the Bernabeu, Sami Khedira is expected to leave the European champions shortly after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Marco Reus
(function(){var ids=["snack_dex5","snack_dex6"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-d:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); (function(){var ids=["snack_mex4","snack_mex5","snack_mex6","snack_mex7"];var els=document.querySelectorAll("div.snack-rpt-m:not([id])");for(var i=0;i<els.length&&i<ids.length;i++){els[i].id=ids[i];}})(); Marco Reus is perhaps the most wanted man in all of Europe at present, and Chelsea are not going to waste the opportunity should he become available.
Reus has made it clear he will not be signing a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea have a proven track record when it comes to signing wanted world class talent.
And with reports suggesting they hold the edge over rivals with the offer of Andre Schurrle in part exchange, it would not be a surprise to see Mourinho come out on top in this transfer battle.
