Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping the downward spiral they seem on at the moment will sort itself out before next season. Indeed, while things aren’t quite as bad as that infamous title defence under Jose Mourinho, the punters propping up our bar haven’t enjoyed the season as a whole.

Since the turn of the year, Chelsea have struggled for wins, three in fact in the Premier League. With constant rumours surrounding Antonio Conte’s future and the team somewhat playing like strangers, it seems that it’s going to take a lot for the team to turn its fortunes around in the latter part of the season, especially after the Spurs defeat that all but ended the Blues’ chance of Champions League qualification.

With the fans in the bar and the board looking forward to a summer overhaul of the club, many of them will be hoping that Chelsea can revitalise the whole of the club and move them in a new steady direction.

Indeed, the board now runs the football club more like a business than a hobby like previous years and surely they’ll want to offload some players in a bid to balance the books, but more importantly, stop the growing rot of managers and players coming in and out like a revolving door. Our landlord takes a look at three players that may be moved on in the summer months…

Gary Cahill

The club captain is not having the best of seasons so far and remarkable stats go to show that the Blues are a better team without him in it currently, a truly breathtaking thought given the English defenders standing at the club. Cahill has won everything during his time at Stamford Bridge and at the age of 32, it seems that the years may finally be catching up with him.

He’s had many a good year at Stamford Bridge since his move south from Bolton, however, it may be time to move on as he seems to be replaced with the younger and more athletic Andreas Christensen.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

The summer signing from Monaco hasn’t exactly set the Premier League alight with his Chelsea displays so far this season, many of the fans here in the pub feel like Bakayoko is more of a liability to the team at times than anything else. Chelsea need a strong midfield, especially going into next season and Bakayoko has the potential to be a crucial part of that.

He’s powerful and he proved for Monaco last year in Ligue 1 that he has the talent to succeed.

With the majority of the squad not giving it their all, Bakayoko has had the excuse of him adjusting to life in the Premier League. However, with the end of the season approaching that excuse is now null and void.

Michy Batshuayi

Michy Batshuayi is currently on a half-season loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund and is massively out of favour with Conte, with the striker looking likely to move on in the summer. Despite his popularity, Chelsea’s Italian coach has never seemed to trust the former Marseille man and a return to Stamford Bridge may halt his current form.

The Belgian hasn’t had the best of times at Stamford Bridge during his 18 months at the club and following the World Cup, he will be hoping to put himself in the transfer spotlight.
