For the first time in his Chelsea career, the Spaniard was reduced to a limited role in the Premier League last season. Out of the 29 appearances he made, only 13 were starts. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old’s contribution was masterful scoring five goals and providing 12 assists as Chelsea won their fifth Premier League title – Fabregas’ second.

Michy Batshuayi

With Diego Costa’s probable departure looking even likelier by the day, it looks as if Conte will have to rely on Michy Batshuayi – lauded as ‘Batman’ by Chelsea supporters – on the opening day of the forthcoming season. Despite being used intermittently last season, Bathsuayi proved his reliability in the most important of occasions.

The Belgian forward completed his first season with Chelsea having scored nine goals, the most iconic of which was his winner against West Bromwich Albion that secured the title for the Blues. He finished the season well too, bagging a brace on the final day against Sunderland. Batshuayi has unequivocally proved his ability to make an impact from the bench and he could get better if entrusted with consistent playing time.
