Ruben Loftus-Cheek

This name is very familiar to our Chelsea residents lining up in the Transfer Tavern, many of whom consider him to be Chelsea’s foremost prospect.

Indeed, his chances of success with the Champions looked high in 2015/16 – the 21-year-old made 17 appearances scoring two goals in the process.

Loftus-Cheek, who has been at the club since he was a young child, was reduced to a limited role last season making 11 first team appearances – seven of which came from the substitutes bench.

Nonetheless, thanks to European football, Chelsea will be facing a congested fixture list and should seek to maximise the availability of squad players.

Additionally, our landlord is satisfied that Conte will look to improve on their fourth-round exit in the Carabao Cup, so there are opportunities in which Loftus-Cheek’s talent could be utilised.

The beauty of having such a player is that he’s able to operate anywhere in central midfield, that could be as a holding midfielder or positioned as a number 10.

Conte even suggested that he could maximise Loftus-Cheek’s talents as a striker, a position in which he played during pre-season last Summer.

The Englishman demonstrates the priceless versatility that could be of enormous benefit to Chelsea if used correctly.

Nathaniel Chalobah

Chalobah is yet another example of an English midfielder under-utilised by Chelsea.

The 22-year-old’s career has reflected the paradigm of Chelsea’s loan system – he was on loan with six other clubs and made 106 appearances before making his Chelsea debut.

Conte relied upon Chalobah to close games out, and he made 15 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, five of which were starts.

Stylistically Chalobah is different from RLC, he may not be as physically built, yet he does possess a sense of flair.

He’s a great passer of the ball and a capable defensive midfielder.

Considering Matic’s imminent departure and Chelsea’s increased fixture list, it would be exceedingly wise to use Chalobah next season.

There is a reason that the youngster is the second most-capped player of all-time at youth level for England and it’s about time that Chelsea exploit his talents.
