Coventry City have been handed a boost in their hopeful return to the Ricoh Arena as the city’s Cathedral made a statement.
Mark Robins’ Sky Blues will embark on a return to the Championship this summer after gaining automatic promotion from League One. A superb season saw the Midlands-based side ensure second-tier status and talk has now emerged of a potential return for the club to their former home.
Coventry played their home games this season at Birmingham City’s St Andrews Stadium in what was the second time they have left the Ricoh Arena in the past seven years, having previously played at Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium.
Touching on the potential of a return to the city, club chairman Tim Fisher (TalkSport on Friday June 12) has recently said that they are keen to return home after gaining promotion.
Those comments have now been backed by the city’s Cathedral, who have offered their help to the football club, having previously played a part in helping them return to the stadium six years ago.
Coventry have a two-year agreement with Birmingham City to remain at the St Andrews Stadium, should negotiations to move home falter.
It makes perfect sense for Coventry to return to the Ricoh Arena, especially with a strong feeling that the football club are moving in the right direction.
If Mark Robins can keep the Sky Blues in the second tier next season, then establishing a return to the Ricoh and creating an atmosphere could play a massive part in that.
