Coventry City’s Jordan Shipley has backed new signing Gustavo Hamer to adapt well to life at the club as he appears for the first team at pre-season training.
The 23-year-old became Mark Robins’ first signing ahead of their return to the Championship after gaining promotion from League One this year.
The Netherlands youth international arrives at the Sky Blues for a fee of just over £1m and has a wealth of experience in Dutch football, having made his professional first team debut for Feyenoord against Ajax back in 2017.
Following a short loan spell with Dordrecht in the Eerste Divisie, Hamer joined PEC Zwolle and it was his performances there which gained him a move to Coventry.
Having missed Coventry’s first pre-season session, the youngster jetted into Birmingham Airport earlier this week before preparing for Wednesday’s session.
Hamer, who took part in his first session as a Coventry player on Wednesday morning, has now received backing from teammate Shipley, who is quoted as telling Coventry Live: “We all clicked on the first day of pre-season in 2019 and any player than came along after joined up and fitted in without an issue.
“I don’t think they’ll struggle to fit in at Coventry City, everyone is so welcoming.”
Also joining Hamer in the Sky Blues arrivals’ lounge is Julien Dacosta, who completed a move from French side Chamois Niortais earlier this month. The defender was in attendance for Coventry’s first pre-season training session on Monday morning.
Coventry fans will likely be excited to see Hamer in action when the new season starts and Shipley’s comments should act as a comfort to the new Sky Blues player, who may need a little time to adapt to English football.
Robins is certainly making moves to build the best squad he can ahead of the Championship next term and it seems to be a very exciting time to be a fan of the club.
