Coventry City have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Monaco defender Jonathan Panzo, according to Coventry Telegraph.
Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has been one of the busiest managers in the English Football League since the end of the 2019/20 season, making four new signings already this summer.
The spree began with the arrival of Gustavo Hamer from PEC Zwolle to bolster Coventry’s midfield, before Julien Dacosta joined from Chamois Niortais on a free transfer and a third summer arrival came when Callum O’Hare agreed a permanent move to the club after spending last term on loan at the Sky Blues from Aston Villa.
Marcel Hilssner’s signing was then announced on Thursday, moving to the club from German side Paderborn, and interest in Panzo had also developed.
Valued at £2.4m by Transfermarkt, Panzo is uncertain of his future with Ligue 1 side Monaco, having spent last season on loan with Belgian club Cercle Brugge.
With Coventry being linked with the 19-year-old, a fresh report has now provided an update claiming that the former Chelsea youngster could still have a future with the French club.
The report goes on to add that the sacking of coach Robert Moreno at the Stade Louis II has opened up the potential of a new opportunity at the club for the teenage defender.
Panzo, an Under-17 World Cup winner with England three years ago, would be a superb signing for Coventry but it seems that any such move will depend on whether or not the next Monaco manager wants him to play a part at the Ligue 1 side next season.
The mere fact that the Sky Blues are showing interest should be a welcome delight for the club’s fans, who have already seen four new players arrive as Robins strengthens the pack ahead of their Championship campaign.
