Daniel Levy really needs Mauricio Pochettino to achieve these 2 things at Tottenham in 2018

Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Pochettino can turn their season around and start an upward trajectory into the top four. Indeed, after some hope of a title challenge emerged during the start of the campaign, it’s now a straight race to the automatic Champions League qualifying spots.

Spurs have had a few good seasons in recent years, being in and around the title race in the past three years but this season, things haven’t clicked like they had been doing. Mauricio Pochettino and his team are currently sitting outside the Champions League places and they’ll be hoping they can break into the fold this year.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have gone from strength to strength and it’s looking like this year is another type of challenge for the Argentine. Daniel Levy will once again be looking to wheel and deal in the transfer market this January to push the team forward in an effort to deliver top-level European football during the first season in their new stadium.

Many of our regulars believe a good 2018 can really define Pochettino has a manager and his time at Spurs, our landlord things these two things should be high on his priority list…

Top Four Finish

A top-four finish is a must if Spurs are to level up into one of the big players in the league and Europe, especially when they move into their new stadium, revenue-wise it’s a huge priority for the board. Otherwise, some of Spurs’ top talents could be tempted with a move away from the club for pastures new.

With that in mind, Pochettino needs to have a huge 2018 if they are to win the three-way race between themselves, Liverpool and Arsenal for the final Champions League slot.

A Good Champions League Run

Spurs would benefit hugely from a good Champions League, not only revenue wise but for the club itself, and if Pochettino is to start to elevate himself as a manager he needs to prove he can do it in Europe as well as in the Premier League. Touted for big things in the future by our punters, he needs to progress deep into the knock-out phases.

A semi-final must be a target for Levy and the Spurs board and they will surely be hoping to learn from Leeds United in the past when the success was too much for them.
