Tottenham Hotspur: Danny Mills tips Spurs to move for centre-back after signing Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon

Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Danny Mills has strongly hinted that Tottenham could sign a centre-back before the transfer deadline on October 5, with the ex-England international going on to predict that Spurs are not done in the market just yet.

After securing deals for Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon, with the Real Madrid duo now joining Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty (Transfermarkt), Mills believes that Tottenham’s business is still yet to be concluded and that a centre-half could be next on the agenda.

Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed to the Last Word on Spurs podcast that chairman Daniel Levy could be eyeing a centre-back as well as a striker, with a winger now secured following Bale’s season-long loan move from the Spanish capital.

Indeed, as per Romano’s recent update, Tottenham could in fact make two more signings before the window closes in 13 days’ time, and Mills has reiterated that a centre-back may well be on the agenda next.

Describing the middle of Spurs’ defence as an issue for the 2020/21 Premier League season, with natural midfielder Eric Dier now being deployed in that position to reinforce the back four, Mills believes that an extra addition in that area could be necessary as the club chase a top four spot.

“I thought they’d probably struggle if they just went into the season with what they had,” explained the ex-Premier League defender to Football Insider.

“They’ve got a really good right back in and a really good left-back but centre-half may be a little bit of an issue. Do I see them signing a centre-back? Yes.

“Midfield is starting to look a little better and the forward line is fine. So suddenly Mourinho is starting to put his team together.”

Most recently, Spurs have been linked to Beijing Guoan colossus Kim Min-jae, and Alasdair Gold also claimed that Jose Mourinho really likes Benfica star Ruben Dias (football.london).

Who Tottenham actually end up going for is yet to be seen, but it could be a very interesting end to the transfer window around this part of north London.
