Speaking to talkSPORT, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has voiced his doubts as to Mauricio Pochettino and his links to the manager’s job at Manchester United, asking whether he is truly an ‘upgrade’ on current Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Bent, who often issues his take on all things Tottenham, is unsure whether Pochettino would be a better appointment than Solskjaer given his trophyless record in north London.
Bent breakdown on Pochettino
This is a surprising take, especially as the Argentine operated on a shoestring budget at times under Daniel Levy, Bent explains that the Pochettino over Solskjaer argument is one he ‘doesn’t like’, claiming there are question marks surrounding whether he is the ‘answer’ at United.

However, describing him as a ‘superb’ manager, Bent also said that Pochettino did a fantastic job at Tottenham even without bringing an end to the club’s 12-year wait for silverware.
Helping Spurs to an unlikely Champions League final place in 2019, where they knocked out the likes of Man City and Ajax along the way in dramatic fashion, it’s little wonder why he is a Lilywhites fan favourite.

Countering Bent’s claim, fellow ex-Spurs man Jamie O’Hara waxed lyrical over the ‘superb’ former Tottenham manager who ‘consolidated Spurs as a top four club’.
Bearing this in mind, Pochettino could be a success at United with serious financial backing, but Lilywhites will perhaps hope that their former manager doesn’t move to a Premier League rival anyway.
Unceremoniously departing Tottenham after being sacked last season, supporters will also perhaps be wondering how Pochettino may have fared with a summer spending spree akin to this year’s.
