The Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Arsene Wenger in his potentially last season at the club and, that a result, will usher in a new era and build on the big and exciting signings he brought in during the winter window.

Wenger will be entering into his second year of the two-year contract extension he signed last summer next season and many of our resident Gunners hope it’s for sure the last year. With that in his mind, our fans feel the Frenchman should set-up the team to move forward with the next manager, which is the least he could do and will want to avoid a Man United post-Fergie situation happening.

In order for that to happen a few players are sure to be shown the Emirates exit door in the summer. Our barman knows a few of the fans in the bar wouldn’t mind letting a couple of deadwood go, certainly if it means more incomings to freshen up the team.

With that in mind, our landlord takes a closer look at what TWO players this summer face the Gunners axe…

Petr Cech

The 35-year-old keeper is looking like his best years are certainly behind him, often proving mistake-prone this season, which is very unlike him. The fans in the bar know that Cech isn’t and hasn’t been that type of goalkeeper during his time at both Chelsea and the Gunners, and it’s sad to see.

However, if Wenger wants to move forward then a younger and similar class and ability to Cech needs to come in and replace the Czech Republic legend.

Danny Welbeck

Former Man United youngster Danny Welbeck came to Arsenal with a lot of promise and ambition, however, it hasn’t really worked out for him at all at the Emirates. Reduced playing time will further be aided by the recent winter signings and his own lack of form and constant injuries will be a factor also.

It seems as if it’s time for Welbeck to move on in search of regular first-team minutes and, possibly for the sake of his own career more than anything else.
