Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleasantly surprised to see how busy their manager is this month, with reports filtering in of a third signing for Jurgen Klopp as our punters gather for this evening’s football.
The Mirror states that Liverpool have reached a deal in principle to sign Schalke defender Joel Matip, with the Cameroonian set to move to the Premier League on a free transfer at the end of the season.
24-year-old Matip has spent 16 years in German football but is now seeking a new challenge, with Klopp moving swiftly to land the defender that he has had his eyes on ever since his days managing at Borussia Dortmund.
Schalke wanted the 27-cap Cameroonian ace to pen a new deal but he was reluctant to do so and with his deal coming to a close, he is free to discuss a pre-contractual agreement with clubs outside of Germany this month.
Our punters are disappointed this isn’t an immediate signing, with Liverpool’s defence currently plagued with injury problems.
Liverpool fans, how big a signing is this? Let us know in the comments below!
