It’s that time of year again where pub quizzes are a regular here at the Transfer Tavern, and there is always that one person who knows the most obscure of facts that you couldn’t dream of knowing!

Well, we here at the Transfer Tavern would like to help change that and bring knowledge to the masses.

Obviously a number of punters here at the bar will know a lot about every club and will probably know facts about West Ham United.

There has been a number of changes to the club even in their most recent history with the move to the Olympic Stadium and the new crest on their shirt, but we all know that!

But there will for sure be some things that you may not of know of about the Irons in their long history as a club.

So with that here are two things you probably never knew about West Ham…

Amongst the elite

Everyone knows that in the last ten years it has been a mix of great seasons and some not so great seasons which has seen the Irons playing in the Championship and struggling to get back up via the play-offs at times.

But what some of you may not know is that West Ham United are one of only eight clubs in existence never to have fallen below the second tier of English football! They are among some great clubs such Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur who have also never been below the second tier.

THE WAR CUP WINNERS

West Ham United were the first ever winners of the Football League War Cup. The competition was in place of the FA Cup that was cancelled during the Second World War.

The Hammers would beat Blackburn Rovers in the final of the competition after qualifying through the southern section of the tournament. That’s surely a great piece of silverware to have won at such a time of turmoil for the country.
