Chelsea fans at the Tavern today will be wondering who their newest striker could be – as it seems ever more likely Diego Costa is leaving the club.
A talented striker and a right wind up merchant. Why grown men let another grown man wind them up so much is anyone’s guess but it works and that’s all that really matters if you’re winning games.
Understandably it’s rare for anyone other than Chelsea supporters to like Diego Costa, which is why many fans were delighted to hear the news that the Spaniard may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.
His destination is yet unknown with a move to former club Atletico Madrid seeming unlikely due to their transfer ban.
Wherever he ends up, that club will be getting a very talented and very entertaining forward so with that being said, let’s take a look back at three of Diego Costa’s best Chelsea moments.
Telling Shawcross he stinks

Ryan Shawcross is quite a towering figure, so the last thing most people would do is to attempt to make him mad – perhaps like telling him he smells? Well that’s exactly what Diego did as he looked Shawcross right in the eye, pointed to his armpit and did a wafting gesture to imply the giant defender stank. Whilst you’ve got to question the Spaniard’s sanity on this one, it did make for a funny moment.
That lob against Arsenal

It would be criminal if there wasn’t at least one mention of one of the many fantastic goals Costa has scored during his time at Chelsea – because for all his faults he is a world class striker. Chelsea were on their way to yet another Premier League title under Mourinho in the 2014/15 season and found themselves 1-0 up against local rivals Arsenal, at Stamford Bridge. Protecting their one goal lead, Fabregas played a long ball up to from inside his own half, with Costa taking the ball down perfectly off his chest and lobbing Szczesny before Koscielny and Mertesacker could do anything about it.
Chucking his bib

Another funny moment from Costa, and another act that it seems like only he could get away with. After Mourinho refused to bring Costa on in a game against Tottenham, the striker took off his warm-up bib and threw it over his shoulder. Now whether he meant to or not, he hit Mourinho with the bib and the world went mad.
