Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern really have had it up to the back teeth with their football club and the way it’s going at the moment.
The Gunners here by the bar are yet again reeling after seeing their side embarrass themselves live on TV in front of millions – making their club a real laughing stock.
It’s gotten to the point now where you wonder if the players have any pride left whilst Arsene Wenger surely has to go at the end of this season.
Who comes in to replace him, if he does leave, remains to be seen but our landlord reckons the Gunners should look no further than Diego Simeone who is currently at Atletico Madrid.
That in mind, then, here are three reasons why appointing him should be exactly what the club do next…
Winning mentality
Many have questioned whether Arsenal have a winning mentality thanks to the amount of times they get turned over in the big games.
They almost certainly need to do something about that if they want to bring trophies in more than they have recently, then, and Simeone should guarantee that. He’ll rile his players and get them worked up before letting them loose on the pitch and that’s what Arsenal fans want to see.
He would completely tear things up
Simeone and Wenger play completely different styles of football so it could be the exact change in tact the club needs.
It would take some time to implement but once the players get used to Simeone’s methods and the sheer will to win he has success should be round the corner. Wenger is too set in his ways to change things now and fresh ideas and impetus are the only things that will get them out of this rut.
He may not be available for some time after this summer
Simeone’s contract is up with Atletico past the end of next season and so Arsenal should be ready to offer him the job now.
If he extends his Atletico deal or agrees to join another club, as he well might do, the Gunners will have missed the boat on him for some time thereafter. This is pretty much the best time to try and bring him in, then, and Arsenal cannot be left to rue more missed opportunities in not acting.
