Discussions reportedly held as Celtic seek long-term agreement

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will still be celebrating their victory over Rangers last weekend and will have more to toast with the news that one of their rising stars has been offered a new deal to remain at Celtic Park.

Brendan Rodgers’ side is still on course for a domestic Treble, although they have been beaten during this season’s campaign twice so far and the performances of Kristoffer Ajer have been a major reason as to why.

According to a report by the Scottish Sun, it is believed those displays have been recognised by the hierarchy at Parkhead and a new deal is on the table for the 19-year-old. His performances have also been noticed by Norway after he received his first call-up for the international side, with discussions between his party and the club believed to have started.

The defender’s current deal still has a significant length of time left on it, with it set to expire in 2020, which shows how valued he is to the Scottish champions. He has become a first-team regular for Rodgers’ side making 24 appearances, having joined the club in 2016 but spent his first season on loan at Kilmarnock last season.

Landlord’s Verdict

The young defender has looked impressive when playing in the green-and-white hoops and a contract extension will be warmly welcomed by those Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern. Keeping Ajer tied down to a longer deal will prove to be beneficial to all parties, as he will be able to continue his development, whilst Celtic will have a key player for many years to come.
