Speaking to L’Equipe, (via The London Evening Standard,) Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has insisted he is going to fight for his place and see out the remainder of his current contract at least for the club, with our Gunners fans here in the Transfer Tavern hoping he finds form.
The Frenchman has struggled for form and fitness this season but returned to goal-scoring ways against Sunderland a couple of weeks ago as the Gunners ran out 4-1 winners but he still seems limited to a bench role for now.
The striker has seen Alexis Sanchez take his place so far in the side as a makeshift centre-forward but it has worked up to now with Arsenal looking like serious title contenders despite drawing to Spurs at the weekend and falling two points behind leaders Liverpool.
Giroud feels, however, that he can still offer a good option to Arsene Wenger and is ready to roll his sleeves up.
He’s a relatively divisive figure at the Emirates, though can certainly provide something different in attacking areas when called upon.
“I see my future at Arsenal for another two or three years, the date my contract ends. I feel good here and I want to play at the highest level for as long as possible.
I still feel I’ve got the gas to do it. After, for sure I’d prefer to be playing, but it will be for me to find my place. I have not knocked on Arsene’s office.
”We’ll see, I’m not worried, my time will come. He’s always supported me in the difficult times and I have every confidence he’ll keep doing so.
”I won’t lie, there have been times I’ve been disappointed and not happy with my situation. But the coach knows that. He’s the one who makes the choices.”
