Manchester United are coming to Liverpool on Monday 17th October in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash between two of the title chasing clubs.
There is a huge rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United and with Liverpool on the better form and with home advantage, they might be quite optimistic about stealing the three points.
Whilst Liverpool have been phenomenal in the Premier League since their shock defeat at Burnley in the 2nd week of the season, Manchester United have staggered.
Despite winning their first 3 Premier League games, they only won one of the next 4, which includes two defeats at the hands of their local neighbours Manchester City and Watford.
Mourinho appears to have struggled picking his best side, constantly changing the profiles in his starting XI, particularly in the midfield areas.
One player who is causing a lot of trouble is Paul Pogba. United spent world record money on him and are trying to find anyway to fit him in.
However, there’s nothing wrong with him having a break and the punters here at the Transfer Tavern think that these two players might be better options than Pogba to play alongside Ander Herrera for the crunch match….
Michael Carrick
The Manchester United stalwart hasn’t really been given his chance under Mourinho yet.
He might be ageing but he still commands full respect from the opposition and is a calm and composed head to rely on.
When the Red Devils beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield a couple of seasons ago, Carrick was integral to keeping the crowd quiet and placing the important pass when he needed to.
He has this innate ability to make everything he does so easy and yet, his role is so important and difficult.
Quite simply, Carrick oozes class and whilst he and the rest of the United squad struggled last year in the Europa League when Liverpool simply outran and outfought them, he’s still someone we think would be a good choice for this game.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Schneiderlin is a player in a similar mould in Carrick.
He is a top passer of the ball but his strength lies more at cutting the opposition’s threat down to a minimum.
He is strong and a fantastic reader of the game and is therefore able to intercept when called upon.
Like Carrick, Schneiderlin has had very little game time under Mourinho.
In fact. Schneiderlin has been granted even less than the 35-year-old Englishman.
Despite that, he is still a reliable midfielder who you could call upon for a game of this magnitude.
He doesn’t seem fazed by the big occasion and whilst there is some doubts as to whether he is god enough for the ilk of Manchester United, until he is given his chance under Mourinho, it’s hard to judge.
What better game to test his mental character and ability to perform under pressure than the biggest derby in the Premier League?
