Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has opened the door to a move to Premier League and possibly Spurs should they remain competitive at the highest level. Tottenham Hotspur’s need to finish amongst the Champions League places has become more important than ever as one of their top targets has issued the come and get me plea.
Redknapp’s men are currently 5th in the Premier League, 4 points behind City but with a game in hand. Spurs have enjoyed great success in the Champions League this year with memorable victories over both Milan Clubs and are set to face Spanish giants Real Madrid next week in a mouth watering quarter final.
The London club will not want to be one hit wonders in the competition and securing top talents such as Mats Hummels would increase their chances of becoming regulars in the competition. The cultured Borussia Dortmund defender has starred for the Bundesliga leaders this season in his 25 appearances. The Bundesliga side are having a fantastic season sitting top 7 points clear of 2nd placed Leverkusen.
Now Hummels, like so many other coveted Dortmund stars, has hinted at moving on to challenge himself at the highest level. “I’ll only leave for Borussia for a top, top European club,” he told Bild. “I do not care if it’s in England, Italy or Spain. But now I want to be realistic and not waste my time dreaming.”
The central defender, who has scored five goals from central defence this season, is one of Redknapp’s top priorities. The White Hart Lane outfit have struggled with injuries this season and the manager wants to bring more depth to his squad. The Spurs manager believes that with just one or two quality signings, the team can push on and fight for a Premier League Title.
Hummels is in high demand however as sources in Italy have revealed that Inter Milan are preparing a summer bid for the 22-year-old. Should Spurs finish 4th though, they will have a very good chance of securing his signature.
