€6M Is An Absolute Bargain For This Dynamic, Powerful International

Joe T 17 April 2011, 17:44 3 minutes read

The Bosman rule has brought some interesting issues to football, we are currently experiencing one.  It is now the time of the year where clubs start to worry about which of their players are running down their contracts.

Now that we have the transfer window, any player with 12-18 months left on their deal only has a few windows to move in before they can go for nothing.  Who blinks first? Does the club cash in this Summer? Or does the player sign the new contract with the current club to secure a few more years in the professional game?

Well in the case of highly sought after Nuri Sahin, the power is definitely in the hands of the player.  The widely respected midfielder has just 2 years to run on his contract, and with there being no indication that he is ready to sign a new one, his club, Borussia Dortmund, aren’t ready to gamble and have announced their intentions to sell the player this Summer.

German newspaper Bild, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watze told the paper:

“We have already tried to extend his deal…Unfortunately this has still not yet succeeded. If Nuri [Sahin] gets an offer from Real Madrid or Barcelona he has every right to talk about it with us. Then we will sit down with him and discuss it.”.

The prospect of losing such a highly regarded player for nothing clearly won’t appeal to the club and that is why they are probably doing the right thing.  This will come as great interest to all the clubs that are supposedly wanting to make a move for the Turkish international.

Sahin has been linked with many sides as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona, they include Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter Milan, and it would appear a close certainty that he will move this Summer.  He is best used in the heart of the pitch, picking passes and setting up plays, and that is something that Roberto Mancini’s side could definitely do with, they are crying out for someone to link up the midfield with the attacking unit.

You would have thought that Dortmund would be pretty much guaranteed a decent amount of money by selling the player this Summer as opposed to a cut price deal next Summer when his contract is even closer to expiry.  However interestingly, goal.com have previously reported that he has a get out clause in his contract which is set at £5.5million, which to me seems remarkably low.

In many ways I find this somewhat hard to believe but either way, it could lead to some interesting negotiations between his club and potential buyers this Summer.

All in all, this one is about as clear as a pint of water here in the tavern, but what we do know is that Nuri Sahin is probably on the move this Summer, however there appears absolutely no information on for how much he will cost and to where he will end up, so I suppose we are just going to have to wait and see and watch this one unfold.
