It’s said that you’re not judged for the mistakes you make, rather the way you react to those mistakes. That is so often the case in professional football and Jordan Pickford has reacted brilliantly to his errors last week against Newcastle with a bounce-back display to be proud of against Chelsea at Goodison Park yesterday.

England’s number one stepped up the plate with a number of crucial first-half stops as he more than played his part in the Toffee’s 2-0 win over Chelsea. The clash with the Blues was Pickford’s 100th in the Premier League and he more than earned his clean-sheet to mark the occasion, and will now be travelling into England’s games against the Czech Republic and Montenegro with confidence.
At times this season, the Everton shot-stopper has come in for hoards of abuse from both rival fans and his own. Blunders in key moments and key games have left the shot-stopper with egg on his face more than a few times, with last week against Newcastle and that awful Merseyside derby at Anfield the two that jump to mind. However, displays like yesterday’s put those poor performances in their place, and the Toffees loved heaping praise on their man at full-time yesterday.
