Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern gearing up for the Premier League weekend are delighted to see their club digging in their heels as they look to keep hold of a key player.
The Mail state the Toffees have demanded £45m for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who is in fine form this season having dispatched eight goals in all competitions.
Former Chelsea forward Lukaku, whom Everton purchased for £28m, is reportedly attracting the attention of both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus; but Roberto Martinez’ side are not prepared to lose the Belgian cheaply.
22-year-old Lukaku is happy on Merseyside with the Toffees but is likely to review his situation at the end of the season, as he wants to play Champions League football- something Everton will find it very difficult to offer him.
With Everton unable to guarantee him that opportunity, Lukaku may elect to move else. The fans at the bar accept that this is probably the best career move for him but are pleased to see their club refusing to accept a cut-price deal.
