Ex-Arsenal star admits he could’ve been a Manchester United player

Nasri.jpgArsenal fans are looking stunned here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mail report that one of their former players, Samir Nasri has made a rather astonishing claim about why he chose to go to Manchester City.

According to the Frenchman, the only reason he chose the blue of Manchester City and not the red of their neighbours Manchester United, was the fact that he wanted to keep his relationship with Arsenal fans and their manager Arsene Wenger in tact.

Our resident Gooners scoff at the article right away with the Frenchman incredibly high on Arsenal’s list of public enemies that also includes Ashley Cole, Robin van Persie, oh and Ryan Shawcross!

In news that Arsenal fans will find more than a little bit confusing, Nasri claimed when speaking to BeIn Sports: “We met with Sir Alex in Paris, in a hidden place, out of sight, so as not to fuel the rumours.

“But there was one thing that was a problem; I was asked to go to war with Arsenal to be able to join. I could not see myself doing it, especially with Arsene Wenger.

“After Man City showed their interest. Mancini called me every day during the holidays. I then decided that they really wanted me.”

As one of our punters note, given how the relationship between Nasri and Arsenal deteriorated in the wake of his move, we think he may as well have gone to Manchester United anyway!
