Liverpool and England fans are rejoicing alike in the Transfer Tavern this evening, amid news Steven Gerrard could be handed a role within the Three Lions set-up.
The club legend is regarded as one of the greatest players to ever grace Anfield, pushing his way up to third in Liverpool’s all-time appearances chart before leaving for MLS side LA Galaxy in 2015.
An affluent career saw him win two FA Cups, three League Cups, a Europa League title and a Champions League title, as well as claiming 114 England caps and captaining the Three Lions at the 2014 World Cup.
After hanging up his boots in 2016, Gerrard became a youth coach at Liverpool in January this year but according to The Independent, he could now be set for a role within the England set-up as well.
Although it’s unclear what his role would be, apart from the fact it will likely start out as an ‘informal’ appointment, Gerrard has already held talks with the FA’s Technical Director Dan Ashworth, with English football’s governing body keen to have a member of the ‘Golden Generation’ as part of England’s coaching staff.
However, he could take a similar role to his one at Liverpool and become involved with some of the Three Lions’ younger age groups.
England will be in action at the end of the month – facing Germany in a friendly before hosting Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier.
