Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Carlton Palmer claimed West Bromwich Albion would not have been relegated from the Premier League in 2017/18 with Tony Pulis in charge.
Pulis would have kept Baggies up
Pulis was sacked by the Baggies in November 2017 after West Brom lost 4-0 to Chelsea at the Hawthorns. He was replaced by Alan Pardew, who himself was then relieved of his duties in April 2018 when Darren Moore took over.

Palmer believes that Pulis should have stayed at club. If he had, the former star says, West Brom would not have dropped down to the Championship.
“Had West Brom not sacked Tony Pulis, I believe they wouldn’t have got relegated in the first place. You know, it’s as simple as that.”
Hindsight
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Pulis, of course, holds on to the record of having never been relegated as a manager – he kept Stoke City in the top flight for a number of years. With West Brom having managed just one win in their first 10 league games this term as they sit in 18th place, dropping down a division once more is becoming a real possibility.

Palmer, though, does make a good point. Even at the time, it was clear that Pulis was a master at keeping teams in the top division, and given he was let go in November, there was plenty of time to turn things around. Pardew and Moore were unable to steer the ship, either. Now, though, it is is up to Bilic to keep West Brom amongst the elite.
In other news, West Brom fans want this “goal-machine” to be given a chance.
