Carlton Palmer insists that West Ham United have been dealt a severe blow this summer in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard.
The Manchester United attacking midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hammers and was in electric form for the club.
He scored nine goals and laid on five assists in 16 games for the Irons as they secured qualification to the Europa League with a sixth-placed finish.

They have, thus far, been unable to strike a deal to bring him back to the club on a permanent basis, however.
Reports have suggested that the Irons remain interested in a deal to sign Lingard this summer but they have yet to bring him into east London.
Palmer believes that the Hammers have been dealt a bitter blow by their failure to bring him in, because of how important he was for David Moyes’ side last term.
Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “I think they’ll do well. I think it’s a massive blow they haven’t been able to get Lingard, I think he was a massive signing for them, I think the way he plays, his assists, his goals, I think it was massive for them.”
