For a while now many sections of the media have looked at how Arsene Wenger can tweak his midfield this Summer, and one name constantly linked with the exit door is Tomas Rosicky.
Well potentially it now appears that the Czech midfielder may not be on his way after all. To say he has not made much of an impact this season may be somewhat of an understatement, but his agent is insistent that he has a future at the Emirates.
Our friends in Italy at tuttomercatoweb and Goal have quotes from his agent Pavel Paska stating that there is no news at this point:
“There have been many false rumours circulating, but at the moment, there is nothing concrete….It has been quite some time since I have heard from [Arsene] Wenger….Therefore, there is no new news, and if there is a change, he will be the first to communicate this.”.
In the grand scheme of things, this comment could easily be taken either way, there is nothing to say that he wants to move on nor is there a clear signal that he wants to stay.
He has still turned out quite a few times for the side this season, making 20 appearances in the Premier League, but with the emergence of Jack Wilshere, and Samir Nasri hitting a new level, games are becoming thinner on the ground. At 30 years of age it is becoming a time in his career that he will want to be playing on a more regular basis, and it remains unclear whether his chance of starts will improve next season.
There have been numerous clubs linked with the player recently, but it is Aston Villa that have been reportedly the closest to making a move. Whilst it is now looking as if there is nothing in place, that statement from the players representative is really more of a ‘watch this space’ sort of comment.
The future for Rosicky at Arsenal depends more or less entirely on what they do in the Summer transfer market, if they keep Fabregas and no midfielders leave then the end could be in sight for the attacking midfielder. I personally can’t help but feel that there will be a player heading out of the Emirates midfield this Summer, and I think it will be either Rosicky or Arshavin but not both.
Whatever happens this Summer it may be worth waiting for developments, Rosicky was once a big name at Arsenal but for me the impact he has on the team is not what it used to be, although his agent hasn’t exactly cleared anything up, I would suggest his future is very much up in the air.
