A moment in time: Olivier Ntcham’s Celtic debut

Celtic started their 2017/18 Scottish Premiership campaign by making a number of signings, however, one summer acquisition appeared to hit huge heights right from the off.

Brendan Rodgers, who was beginning his second season at Celtic Park, had the likes of Charly Musonda, Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper all arrive and fail to make the desired impact at the club.

However, he also had the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Patrick Roberts who had both joined on loan, although one man appeared to stand out more than anybody else, especially after his debut game for the club.

A moment in time: Olivier Ntcham’s debut

Olivier Ntcham joined the Scottish Premiership champions in a deal thought to be worth around £4.5million from Manchester City, as per Transfermarkt, which now appears to be a bargain fee, despite it being the most they had spent on a player in a decade.

The midfielder made his debut for the Bhoys in their match against Linfield in the Champions League and put in a solid performance for his new team.

Granted, the then 21-year-old may not have had an easier opponent to have played against in his time at Celtic, however, that did not stop fans from reacting with widespread enthusiasm in response to his display against the part-time Irish outfit.

Many had taken to social media to state that he had played outstanding, with many believing he would have a bright future ahead of him.

Here are just some of their reactions:

Ntcham has since become a popular figure at Celtic Park and despite a rocky period during the most recent transfer window, it appears he is set to stay in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old penned a new long-term contract earlier in November to keep him at Paradise until 2022, per the club’s official website, after speculation in the summer continued to mount about his future.

It is alleged that Porto had tried to sign the midfielder with a figure that would have eclipsed the one paid by Celtic originally, however, they refused any offers that came their way, according to a report by Goal.

It could be argued that his performances had dipped at the time due to the interest as well, however, with his future now sorted, those same fans that were happy with his debut will want to continue to see him at his very best.
